Our School aims to provide a happy, secure, friendly, learning environment where children, parents, teachers, ancillary staff and B.O.M work in partnership, where each individual is valued encouraged and respected for his/her uniqueness and facilitated to reach his/her full potential in a positive and supportive atmosphere.
“Mol an Óige agus Tiocfaidh sí” is the cornerstone of our school ethos, making for a happy school with happy children who are successful in the educational field, and also in all artistic and creative pursuits. All areas of the curriculum are explored including English, Maths, Irish, Art, Music, Physical Education, Drama, Science, History, Geography, S.P.H.E and Religion . The school has re-introduced French into the senior classes. We promote Healthy Eating in this school. We have been awarded four Green Flags and are on the pursuit of the 5th Green flag in 2020. The theme for this 5th flag is Biodiversity. We have established a beautiful school garden and enjoying looking after the plants. We also love to get out on nature walks in the village of Lixnaw.
We have a very beautiful choir who sing at all Church Sacraments and events and also perform in carol singing services in Tralee at Christmas.
We have received various art, handwriting and sports awards. We have won I.N.T.O handwriting , Kerry Co. Council competitions. We have also won Camogie mini 7’s, Basketball - 3 years in a row, took part in all football competitions. We also have been very successful in the Credit Union Art and Table Quiz Competitions over the years. We have won prizes at Writer’s Week. We have taken part Creative Writing competitions and workshops with Roisin Meaney, Cathy Cassidy and Ruthi Lach. Also in recent years, all classes from Senior Infants to 6th attended a creative writing workshop with Sarah Webb and Alan Early, both successful authors. Maybe we will have a famous writer or author in our midst some day! Our school has also had huge success in the Fís Film Project which is a national film making competition which the children love taking part in. Our school has reached the final three times which is a huge achievement. In 2016, our students reached the final of the competition and travelled to the Helix in Dublin to collect their prize. Again in 2018 we have reached the final, the theme of our winning film was "Stop Plastic Pollution". Once more we reached the final the following year with a imaginative film about "Saving the Bees".
We have been taking part in the Junior Entrepreneurs competition over the last number of years. This is an opportunity for Senior classes to develop their own business idea as a group and learn about all that is involved in running a business.
We read novels and take part in Jolly Phonics, Building Bridges and Shared Reading programmes. Take a look at our Art pictures and projects on the website. A friendly happy school full of friendly happy faces where learning is a natural and effortless part of our enjoyable school day! All children are given the confidence to pursue their talents and enrich their abilities in the pursuit of learning. They are well prepared in the full curriculum spectrum before going to second level education.
We have recently opened a computer room in the school with 14 PCs. This is a fantastic facility which we are looking forward to using for various projects. Our school also has an over-head projector or an interactive smart board in each classroom. We also have ipad tablets for children to use in class if required.
