Raising Our Second Green Flag

On Wednesday 1st of June, the whole school came out in the sun to raise our second green flag! What a fantastic achievement! Well done to everyone!

Energy Green Flag

On Tuesday the 17th of May, 2016, three members of the Green school committee attended the Green School award ceremony at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Little Island, Cork. The lucky members who were chosen from a hat were Aoibhínn (2nd Class), Orla (3rd Class) and Kaitlynn (4th Class). The three girls along with their teacher Ms.Browne had the proud honour of collecting the school's Second Green Flag. Well done to all of the green school committee whose picture appeared on the big screen on the day and to the whole school, who worked so hard to achieve this second green flag. Aoibhínn, Orla and Kaitlynn had a great day including lunch, photographs and the presentation. Thanks also to the parents who travelled on the day.

Junior Entrepreneur Project

On Thursday the 12th of May, 5th and 6th class attended an open day for the Junior Entrepreneur Project. The open day took place in the Malton Hotel, Killarney. The girls got the chance to have a look at some of the projects produced by other schools as well as showing off their own product; personalised candles.

The students were presented with a plaque and flag for the school, and were treated to a disco with a DJ after lunch.

Everyone had a great day. It was just reward for all of their hard work since the project began last September.

Showcase Day

The Fifth and Sixth Class held a Showcase Day as part of their Junior Entrepreneur Project on April 20th. They told all of the other classes about their candle making project and how they developed their ideas. They also performed a drama and rap based around their business idea, Krazy Kandles.

In the afternoon, parents were invited to visit the school, where the class spoke to them about their candle making and their roles in the business. They too were treated to the drama and rap! The class also held a raffle for a "Krazy Kandle".

It was a great opportunity for fifth and sixth to show off all of their hard work and the day went very well.

Our Second Green Flag

Great News! The school has been awarded our Second Green Flag. Today, we received an invitation to the Green-Schools Award Ceremony on next month. Congratulations to all the students, teachers and all involved. Thank you for all your hard work. This is a fantastic achievement and we are delighted!

State Ceremony at Banna Beach

What an exciting day! 2nd to 6th Class travelled to Banna Beach today to see President Michael D. Higgins and commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the arrival of Roger Casement to Banna beach in 1916. We listened to an excellent re-enactment of Roger Casement's speech by an actor Declan McCarthy, followed by the keynote address by the President of Ireland, Michael D.Higgins. We listened to songs and music and we sang the national anthem. We saw the army and the Navy ship and we were stunned by a flyover by the Irish Air Corps. It was a fantastic day, which we will never forget.

National Spring Clean 2016

Today, 2nd to 6th Class took part in the National Spring Clean, picking up litter around Lixnaw. This is an annual event for the school as part of the Green Flag initiative.  We enjoyed a well earned break at the playground along the way. Well done to all the girls who took part.

The Proclamation by Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál 2016

Our Proclamation Celebration 2016

15 March 2016

Today, we celebrated Proclamation Day in school as we raised the Irish Flag for the first time. We remembered all those who fought for Ireland during the 1916 Rising. We all celebrated as the flag raising ceremony took place. Fifth and sixth class read the 1916 Proclamation as well as their own Proclamation for 2016. We listened to some excellent poems written by the students. 2nd, 3rd and 4th class informed us of some of the main events of Easter week 1916 and they displayed some of their projects. The whole school sang the national anthem. It was a lovely day of celebration and commemoration.
