The Bishop of Kerry, Ray Browne, visited our school on Friday, November 17th. The Bishop spoke to the students and the teachers in their classrooms and enjoyed listening to stories and songs.
4th, 5th and 6th class travelled to Listowel Library on Friday to meet Successful Children's Author - Judi Curtin. This was part of the Children's Book Festival and it was an honour to be invited. Judi was extremely interesting to listen to. She told us stories about her own childhood and answered lots of our questions about her books and her career. Judi kindly signed autographs at the end. We also had time to have a look at some books while in the library. It was a fantastic event and we would like to thank the Listowel Library for organising it.

On Sunday, October 15th, Ireland was bracing itself for Ex-Hurricane Ophelia. It was the first time the status red weather warning extended to the whole country. In preparation for the approaching storm, the government decided that it would be best if businesses stayed closed on Monday, this included the Department of Education who announced that all schools were to remain closed on the Monday. Buses and trains were also cancelled. Thankfully North Kerry escaped the worst of the storm. Cork and other counties along the South coast suffered the most damage. Due to storm, thousands of homes were without electricity and water. ESB wires were brought down mostly by falling trees and tragically three people lost their lives. The Department of Education decided that schools should remain closed on Tuesday, to give school management time to check if any damage had been done to their schools and allow time for roads to be cleared. Scoil Mhuire gan Smál reopened on Wednesday, October 18th. Welcome back to all students.
