Our School

A letter from the Chairperson

For Scoil Mhuire gan Smál, exciting times lay ahead. As we are now a Primary School catering for boys and girls, new challenges and opportunities present themselves. This school founded in 1955 has served Lixnaw and its hinterland well not alone in the pupil's first introduction to the school process but also in their formation and preparation for Second Level. All classes are catered for but the Infant classes are especially fine tuned to deal with the opening and vital years of a pupil's life in school, ask any current parent attending.

At the heart of this is good solid teaching blending the older tried and tested methods with new and innovative teaching, guided by the DES and the latest thinking from the Teaching colleges delivered by a quality staff. Backed by a progressive management team who listen, act and implement change.

Recent reports speak to a very high level of satisfaction among the Parent body, knowing DES policies are continually updated to reflect change.

It should be noted and recognized that Scoil Mhuire gan Smál is in high demand from student teachers from the Training Colleges who come to perfect their skills and where possible to accommodate teachers who wish to be probated, our school never says no.

Covid issues were dealt with efficiently, new cleaning regimes were adopted, air filtration systems installed, hygiene pit stops built, and professional cleaners called in who backed up our own team and above all, adherence to simple hygiene. Thank God no outbreaks to date.

A local mum recently said that "our children are the light that fill our day". We here in Scoil Mhuire gan Smál nurture and develop that flame. The spirit of the Presentation Order that rooted itself here in Lixnaw was never more alive. Faith, Prayer and Sacrament are central to us in our school life. Long life to our local nuns for their service and commitment to you, and to Fr. Anthony for his gentle ways

Ask your child of their school day and their teacher, they will tell of our most recent fabulous sports day, our dancing of the Jeruselama,

classes held outdoors in our new garden class, and new recreational furniture for restful moments in the yard, a new fitness programme, and a few surprises to come, listen to their story of Scoil Mhuire gan Smál and be impressed.

The village is alive and well and Scoil Mhuire gan Smál will continue to be there to serve its children.
